Knocked-out tooth: what to do before you arrive
For an adult (permanent) tooth, the International Association of Dental Traumatology advises (IADT guidelines, 2020):
- Hold the tooth by the crown (the white part), not the root
- If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk, saline or saliva
- Put it back in the socket straight away, or keep it in milk
- Don't let the tooth dry out
- Come to the clinic immediately
Never put a milk (baby) tooth back in.

If the clinic is closed
Message us on WhatsApp and we'll reply when the clinic opens. Outside clinic hours, for facial swelling with fever or difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
